Accessibility

Last updated 30 August 2026. This page says what was actually done and what is known to fall short. A page that only claims success is not worth reading.

What we aimed at

This site was built against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA. That means, in practice:

• text contrast measured rather than guessed — body text at 4.5:1 or better, and controls and their borders at 3:1 or better;
• every control reachable and operable by keyboard, with a focus ring that is visible on light and dark backgrounds alike;
• every photograph carrying a description written for someone who cannot see it;
• headings in a real order, so a screen reader can be used to skim;
• a skip link, so a keyboard user does not have to tab through the menu on every page;
• tap targets sized for a thumb, not a mouse pointer;
• the layout tested at every common screen size from a 320-pixel phone to a 2560-pixel monitor, in portrait and landscape.

Motion

If your device is set to reduce motion, this site honours that. The moving reviews stop, the videos do not play by themselves, the entrance animations do not run, and you get still photographs instead. That setting lives in your operating system's accessibility settings, not on this site.

Where it currently falls short

Two things, stated plainly rather than buried:

• The background video on the phone homepage has no pause button. WCAG 2.2.2 asks for a way to stop motion that starts on its own and runs for more than five seconds. Turning on reduce-motion removes the video altogether, and it stops as soon as you scroll past it, but there is no on-screen control to stop it. This was a deliberate design decision.
• The clips have no captions or transcript. They do not start on their own — you press play — and they carry the sound that was recorded on site.

What was fixed

Every photograph on the Our Work page used to carry the same line, "Work by SB Pro Construction and Painting", which told a screen reader nothing. All 124 now have their own description of what is actually in the frame. They describe what can be seen and no more: a wall is "rendered" or "painted" rather than named as a material nobody can identify from a photograph, and no house numbers or number plates are read out.
